Recent Major Cyberattacks: Data Leaks Revealed (July 25, 2024)

Hello everyone! It’s Anne Marie, a fintech enthusiast always on the lookout for the latest news on cyberattacks. Today, I invite you to dive into the most striking security incidents of last week. Put on your detective hats, because we have much to uncover!

The Most Alarming Data Leaks

Let’s start with what is probably one of the largest data leaks ever recorded: 361 million unique emails and passwords for sale on Telegram. Yes, you heard that right. Cybersecurity researchers discovered this massive breach, and the black market has never been better.

Next, in Australia, the digital prescription provider MediSecure fell victim to a major cyberattack. The personal and medical data of 12.9 million users have been compromised. A real headache for local authorities.

Social Platforms and Their Troubles

Pinterest is also in turmoil. A hacker going by the name “Tchao1337” claims to have access to 60 million lines of user data. For a platform with over 518 million active users each month, you can imagine the potential disaster.

Another popular platform, Trello, had the email addresses of 15 million of its users exposed on a hacking forum, exploiting an unsecured API dating back to January. If you are a Trello user, be sure to check the security of your accounts!

Vulnerable Companies

SFR, one of the leading telecom operators in France, is also affected. 1.4 million subscriber data has been stolen and put up for sale on forums frequented by cybercriminals. SFR subscribers will need to be especially vigilant in the coming days.

BMW Hong Kong has also reported a data leak affecting approximately 14,000 customers. The personal information of these customers has been compromised, raising serious questions about data security in the automotive sector.

The Financial Sector Targeted

Speaking of finances, alarming news is emerging from the hacker subscription services. For a subscription of 120 pounds, cybercriminals can access 600,000 stolen bank card data. Yet another threat to global financial security.

Incidents in Insurance and Healthcare

The healthcare sector is not immune to these attacks. In Leicestershire, a recent attack compromised sensitive data from several healthcare practices. Similarly, the giant pharmacy Rite Aid confirmed a data breach following a cyberattack in June.

The various cyberattacks recorded in recent weeks demonstrate how threatened the security of our personal data is. Whether it’s emails or medical information, hackers spare no sector.
